Capstone Managing Director John Dearing enjoyed presenting a webinar on “Proactive Growth Through Acquisitions” to over 100 fellow Georgetown University alumni and university friends.
As a Georgetown alumni (MBA ’96), John shared his expertise in mergers and acquisitions and growth strategies. He covered key concepts in evaluating strategic growth alternatives and how to determine if acquisition is the right path for your business.
The webinar was presented through Georgetown University Alumni Career Services. At Capstone, we aim to help companies and people grow and we are pleased to support this initiative.
Many expect 2014 to be a big year for M&A activity. According to a KPMG survey of M&A professionals, investors and advisors, 63% anticipate initiating at least one of more acquisitions, and according to a Capstone survey of midmarket company executives, 63% are considering M&A activity.
While acquisition is one of the fastest ways to transform a business, it carries certain risks, and about 70% of acquisitions fail to yield desired results. In our view, most of this failure can be attributed to a lack of strategy. Often, the problem lies not in the deal structure or due diligence: the problem is the buyer chose the wrong company. However, those who pursue carefully planned strategic acquisitions, with a clearly defined purpose and precise selection criteria, can transform and reposition their business for growth!
